As we close out another impactful and exciting year with our Surfrider Northeast Chapters, I’d love to reflect on the incredible accomplishments across our region. From community events to policy wins, 2025 was a year defined by growth, collaboration, and powerful grassroots action.
This year, our Northeast chapters:
-
Hosted 100+ events, from film screenings and speaker series to learn-to-surf sessions, SUP races, and over 90 beach cleanups across more than 40 beaches.
-
Celebrated 5 campaign victories and launched 8 new campaigns focused on protecting clean water, beach access, coastal preservation, and ocean health.
-
Welcomed 6 new student clubs, expanding our youth leadership network to ten active clubs across high schools and universities.
-
Officially organized a new South Coast MA chapter, strengthening our presence and impact in the region.
-
Held an epic Northeast & Great Lakes Chapter Conference in Portland, ME, bringing together staff and volunteers for trainings, workshops, and inspiration.
-
Expanded essential Surfrider programs, including Ocean Friendly Restaurants and Hotels, Blue Water Task Force, the Climate Action Program, and the growing Beach Guardian Program.
-
Deepened our JEDI partnerships, supported by our Northeast JEDI Outreach Intern, strengthening relationships with community-centered organizations and hosting JEDI-focused events.
It’s difficult to capture the full scope of what our chapters achieved this year. These highlights only feature a snapshot of a year filled with dedication, innovation, and joy across our coastline communities. For a deeper dive into the stories that shaped 2025, you can download the full report.
To every chapter leader, volunteer, student, partner organization, supporter, and community member who showed up, spoke up, cleaned up, organized, advocated, and inspired—thank you. Your passion and commitment are what make the Surfrider mission not only possible but powerful.
Here’s to an even stronger, more connected, and more impactful 2026. Together, we’ll continue to protect and enjoy our ocean, waves, and beaches for all people.
